Bob McFadden (right), president of the Geneva Rotary Club, presents a check for $1,500 to the Boys and Girls Clubs for its school vacation lunch program. Accepting the check are Arlene Francis, Executive Director of the clubs, and Bill Buell, Rotarian and clubs volunteer.

The check represented the proceeds from Rotary’s Fall Festival Express, a train excursion featuring wine tasting and a picnic. Rotary partners with Finger Lakes Railway on the popular Fall Festival Express and the Santa Train later in December.

“Rotary is a service club and members work hard to raise dollars,” McFadden said in presenting the check. “We are proud when those dollars go back in the hands of community programs.”

In the club’s 2010-2011 year, Rotary reinvested $48,500 in the Geneva community through various grants, projects, scholarships and interest-free student loans.

Francis explained that the lunch program provides lunches at the Goodman Street and Geneva Community Center facilities during school vacations to kids who would normally receive a free lunch at school.  “Thanks for your support,” she told Rotary members.

Rotary International is composed of 1.2 million men and women around the world who donate their expertise, time and funds to provide humanitarian service that help people in need, to help build goodwill and peace, and to promote understanding amongst cultures.  If you are interested in serving your community in a new way and are interested becoming a Geneva Rotarian please contact secretary@genevarotaryclub.org for more information or visit us on our Web site at www.genevarotaryclub.org.  The Club meets every Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. at the Belhurst Castle.

Affiliated with Geneva Rotary are the Interact Club at DeSales and Geneva High Schools and the Rotaract Chapter at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
